Árpád Schermann (1958) studied violin with Jan Nicolai at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and with Jan Hulst at the Rotterdams Conservatory. After his graduation, he studied choir conduction and orchestra conduction in Rotterdam with Arie van Beek, Barend Schuurman, David Porcelijn and Kenneth Montgomery.
Furthermore, he studied with Jürgen Schriefer who, for a long time, was the most prominent teacher on the principles of the 'School for Uncovering the Voice' of Valborg Werbeck-Svärdström.
Since 1982, Árpád Schermann works with choirs and orchestras in the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Russia and Switzerland, integrating this approach into artistic practice.
Presently, he conducts the Valborg Choir, the Valborg Choir International and the Valborg Ensemble. He is the principal guest-conductor of the Incanto Choir in Switzerland. Besides this he teaches choir conduction based on the principles of the 'School for Uncovering the Voice'.
